The
study analyses student migration using different models and theories Three
models and one approach
has been utilized: pull
-
push
factor theory, world
-
system
theory, the demand and supply system, and the
global space approach. The pull
-
push
factor theory suggests that there are numerous factors attract
international students
to study abroad. The main push factor is the quality of education in the home
country, while pull factors area better education system, highly ranked degree
programs, cultural diversity, and others. There are three components in world
-
system
theory: the core, periphery, and semi
-
periphery.
Accordingly, students from the periphery(third world countries)
go to the core(mostly western countries) and semi
-
periphery
to obtain advanced skills and better occupational opportunities. The demand and
supply system
depicts that there is high demand in western countries as it has
many high
-
ranked
institutions, while there
is less demand for third
-
world
countries as the quality of education lacks.
