By the mid- twentieth century, English had become the global language of science and scholarship and the rise of

the internet and globalization in the latter years of the century and in the new millennium, this domination has only

increased. The increase in the number of students studying outside of their home country in countries where English is spoken has also increased the attraction of English. This has even affected non English speaking countries to

shift programs to English as the language of instruction. This article examines the implications of English based

instruction both positive and negative. The positives are there increase in the ability of students who complete

English programs to be able to compete on the global market. However the negative implications of using English

as a medium has caused for much debate. The main worries of using English as a medium of instruction were loss of culture, loss of local language ,the decrease in quality of instruction and learning due to the lack of fluency, and

the barrier it would create to students who don’t know English.
