The two most popular forms of transnational education are partner-supported
delivery and distance education.
Higher levels of computer ownership and internet
access boosted the number of international students who are
taking online courses.
Thus, many governments have been encouraging the growth of transnational higher
education as it is an opportunity to expand higher education capacity with no cost
of public budget and to improve overall skills levels among the labor force, which
leads to economic development.
According to the study conducted by the European Association
for International Education(EAIE), opening new
international branches is the lowest
priority of European universities at the moment. Though with the introduction of
MOOCs(Massive Open Online Course) and other forms of distance learning, there are
huge potentials for
transnational higher education in the future.
